Foothill AIDS Project - Pasadena is Hiring a Housing Specialist Near Pasadena, CA

Position: Housing Specialist/Housing Case Manager
Status: Full Time - Non-Exempt
Salary: Negotiable and commensurate with education and experience.
Benefits include health insurance.

The Housing Specialist will assist PLWH/A, and their families (as necessary) to locate and secure appropriate and affordable housing; and to follow-up with households after receiving housing or other services, to assess housing stability and provide assistance and referrals to help the household maintain their housing. Housing Specialist will be required to document the housing location and provide follow-up services for up to one year.

D i rect Service Activities

The Housing Specialist/Housing Case Manager’s duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Conducting a housing needs assessment
  • Develop a housing plan with the client that will lead to permanent affordable housing or other appropriate housing (as necessary) and eventual independent sustainability
  • Conduct income assessment and verification of clients
  • Provide housing location services, as necessary, that include helping the client find appropriate housing, not just making referrals to the Clearinghouse or other housing location services
  • Contact property owners and management companies for available housing; develop and maintain housing availability resource list, call media ads, negotiate on behalf of the client; develop expertise in affordable housing and housing subsidies available
  • Assist clients with rental applications, Section 8, and other subsidy application
  • Help clients maintain their housing by educating them on compliance with tenant obligations, budgeting, leases and rental agreements, interpersonal skills to interact successfully with property managers and neighbors,
  • Provide landlord/tenant training and instruction to clients
  • Negotiate with landlord and property management, as necessary
  • Assist clients with moving (i.e. help locating affordable moving companies, locating storage units, etc)
  • Provide referrals to clients for increasing income, such as benefits counseling, employment training, budget counseling, etc. Refer clients to other supportive services, including during the follow-up period
  • Provide regular follow-up assessments for up to one year after move-in or after services are provided. This shall include on-site visits, telephone calls and so forth to assess housing stability and provide additional services as needed to help the client maintain their housing. Follow-up must include monthly contact, including at least 4 periodic on- site visits.
  • Maintain accurate and current client housing files and imputing computer notes of services delivered
  • Case Manage Housing clients as needed
  • Prepare monthly activity reports
  • Attend staff meetings, housing meetings and county training programs
  • Assist with implementation of quality assurance plan.
  • Reports to Housing Coordinator

Q ualifications

  • Bachelors degree in health related field
  • Organizational skills, ability to compile detail reports and a team player
  • Knowledge of HIV/AIDS including mental health and substance abuse issues,
  • Familiarity with the San Gabriel Valley
  • Ability to work well with people from diverse backgrounds; be client oriented,
  • Knowledge of housing assistance programs in Los Angeles County is strongly preferred,
  • Have a reliable vehicle
  • Have valid California driver’s license and valid automobile liability insurance
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Bilingual/Spanish strongly preferred

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $41,000.00 per year

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift

Ability to Relocate:

  • Pasadena, CA: Relocate before starting work (Required)
